International achievements and honors:
Dr. Lahya Afshari Saleh
A) Articles:
She has so far published 3 articles in accredited internal and external journals. “The Study of Respiratory Problems and Pulmonary Function Indices in Cement Industry Workers” is among her valuable articles indexed in ISI database and published in the Journal of Medycyna Pracy in 2015. This study was conducted on 100 workers exposed to cement dust and 120 control groups. The prevalence of respiratory symptoms was significantly higher in the exposed people than the control group. In this group, also, respiratory indices were lower than those of the other group. The analyses revealed an inverse relationship between the work experience of the studied people and a number of spirometric indices. Based on the results of this study, exposure to cement dust can be considered an important factor in the development of pulmonary dysfunction. Therefore, strict application of respiratory protection programs in the cement industry is strongly recommended.
B) Conferences:
She has presented papers in poster form in the International Congress on Safety and Occupational Health held in Frankfurt in 2014. This congress started in Italy in 1955. The main topics of this congress were as follows: Prevention culture and prevention strategies, challenges in occupational health, and diversity at the workplace. It should be noted that she has also presented a paper in poster form entitled “The Evaluation of the Immunity Status of Hospital Staff Against Hepatitis B Virus” in the International Congress on Infection Prevention Strategies for Patients. In this study, 311 hospital staff were evaluated. Based on the results of this study, the level of immunity against hepatitis B in hospital staff is not sufficient, and it is recommended that applicants should be evaluated at the start of their employment regarding vaccination against this virus and the assessment of the level of associated antibodies.
The International Congress on Infections Prevention Strategies in Patients was held for the first time in April 2015 in Mashhad. The main topics of the congress are as follows: Infection control in the hospital and community, vaccination and disease prevention, rational use of antibiotics, patient care-related infections (nosocomial infections), medical equipment-related infections, digestive system infections, bone, joint and soft tissues, central nervous system, respiratory system, sexually transmitted emerging and reemerging infections, tropical infections and infections of the cardiovascular system.
